Frequently Asked Questions

How does it work?

  • Roadway Rent a Car can provide you with a FREE replacement vehicle when your car has been damaged in an accident. To qualify for a FREE rental the other driver must be at fault and have insurance.

Who pays for the car?

  • Roadway Rent a Car will be paid by the insurance company of the driver who is at fault for the cost of your rental vehicle - you will not incur any costs at all. The only exception to this is if you choose to rent a vehicle as a regular rental. Click here to be taken to our regular rental costs.

What do I pay for?

  • If you are not at fault in a car accident we can provide you with a car free of charge to you. You are still responsible for the following items:
  • Fuel -- the car will come with a full tank of fuel. We ask that is returned with a full tank of fuel.
  • Tolls -- you are responsible for toll charges. Our cars are fitted with toll transponders and tolls are charged to your card automatically by the toll company
  • Excess -- in the case of any damage to the vehicle you are responsible for payment of the excess amount of $395.
  • Traffic Infringements -- if we receive any traffic infringements we will complete a statutory declaration for the authorities. A fee is charged for this service.

How will the claims process work?

  • To begin the claims process simply apply online or give us a call on 1300 789 960
  • We will then assess your application and if we are able to supply you with a vehicle we will contact you to organise a time and location convenient to you to deliver your car. This is usually the Smash Repair workshop but may also be your home, workplace or our depot. (This delivery is subject to availability in your area).
  • When your vehicle has been repaired, you just drop off our car at the smash repair shop and pick up your vehicle - you will need to let us know that you have done this and we will collect our car.
  • If your vehicle has been deemed a write-off, we will collect our vehicle directly from you once you have settled your claim.
  • However, if collection is unavailable in your area you will need to return the vehicle to our depot before picking up your own car.

How long can I keep the car?

  • If your car is being repaired, you may keep the car for as long as is needed to repair your vehicle.
  • If your car is a write-off and your claim is through the at fault party's insurance agency, you may keep the car until your settlement cheque is received or until we are notified of the settlement being reached. We try to give you as much notice as possible after we hear from the insurance company/ If your vehicle is a write-off and you are claiming settlement from your own insurance company, you may keep the car until you have received your settlement cheque or for a further 10 working days (whichever comes first)

Are there any age requirements?

  • For our cars, drivers must be over the age of 21 and on an Open drivers license. However, drivers on a Provisional license may also be eligible for a replacement car.

Can I pay to rent a car from you?

  • Yes you can! If you are not at fault in a car accident we can provide our cars free of charge to you. However, you can also simply rent any of our cars for a day, a week or a year. Check out our all inclusive daily rates here.
